If you’ve never heard of Google Trends then you’re in for a treat! It’s a free google supported service that displays statistics and trends for any search query you can conjure up. This was a fantastic tool when I was focused on building up my Search Engine Optimization (SEO) knowledge, a field that has been turned on its head with the introduction of AI aided search engines.
Despite the industry pivot to Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), Google Trends still holds a space in my web design/development toolbox. Specifically, I love the “Trending Now” tab, which displays popular queries and their statistics. This is a great tool that provides valuable insight into a population that has become ultra segmented through the introduction of highly personalized entertainment platforms. You can filter by category, discovering brands and ideas that are growing in popularity, things you may never have noticed depending on which social media platform you use and how that algorithm feeds you information.
So, if your job is to research upcoming trends for social media content, or optimize your company’s website to generate activity, then I highly suggest you look into Google Trends.
